Berlin- East vs. West
WOW! What a city! Torn apart for 30+ years of communism and the western world. We didn't get a chance to spend as much time in Berlin as we would of liked. It's such a fascinating city! So much social and political conflict. The vibe of Berlin is very similar to San Francisco in the way that the people are very liberal in the arts, cultural, so much variety of food and just the energy. It's like San Francisco with a secret and more graffiti. It's also very cheap to live there. Rent and food is super cheap. A whole meal for like 5 euros!
Another cool story about our host. I had meet Alan back in 2011 on my roadtrip around the US. I slept on his couch in Lubbock, Texas (middle of no where) but the home of Texas Tech. I also stayed on his parents house 2 nights later in Austin in his old bedroom. Another two years later Alan came to Cali with his girlfriend and was doing a roadtrip. They stopped by our home town we had coffee and conversations and just caught up. Now, we had come to Berlin and of course we staying with Alan. His place was awesome. Posted some photos below and we did a tour around the city and saw a few of the sites. We also meet up with David Goldwich which I mentioned in my Southern Germany entry. David took us to the gritty. raw part of Berlin. The art co-op and old train depot that looks like it's going to fall down anyday. We also walked to the longest standing part of the Berlin Wall. I can't imagine what life would of been like back then.
TBA.. have to go to work.
